The WHO Expert Consultation (The Lancet, 2004) reviewed the evidence and kept the international classification (18.5 / 25 / 30) as the global standard, while identifying23.0, 27.5, 32.5, and 37.5 as additional public health action points for Asian populations: BMI ≥ 23 indicates increased risk, and BMI ≥ 27.5 indicates high risk. Beyond BMI

For Asian populations, waist circumference is an important complement: increased risk is flagged at ≥ 90 cm for men and ≥ 80 cm for women in most Asian guidelines.
